Following the unexpected & tragic still birth of our son, Harry William Tinker on 16th May 2010 - we established Harry & Co as a charitable trust in his memory.
Harry & Co became a registered charitable trust in July 2011.
Our personal experience left us of the opinion that the standard of maternity bereavement care and accommodation was in desperate need of improvement. We felt it necessary to try to improve this experience for future parents and families who may - unfortunately experience a similar tragedy.
What we have done -
We have redeveloped & refurbished to a hotel like standard the following accommodation:
The Butterfly Suite which is located in a separate wing, off Labour Ward. The Butterfly Suite is decorated in a tranquil style and offers parents and extended family the opportunity to stay with their baby for as long as they wish!
We are now undertaking redevelopment of the Delivery suite situated in the same private wing as The Butterfly Suite & are working closely with families who have used our facilities to improve the environment with using their experiences as a starting point. Some families have raised funds in memory of their baby and have generously offered these funds to help finance the improvements.
The Rainbow Room - a similar facility to the above which is located on the Neo Natal/Special care ward. This has a dual purpose, and offers a private area for family to spend time with their baby during special Neo natal care. It is also used just prior or parents taking their baby home following intensive Neo natal care, so they can utilise the support of the NNU nurses whilst caring for their baby independently.
The Counselling Room - refitted most recently in a similar tranquil colour scheme - located on the Ante Natal Day Unit; where it is mostly likely utilised when delivering difficult news to new parents following a final scan.
Memory making - what we provide;
We offer all families memory making by;
We work very closely with the local hospitals and with the Bereavement Co-Ordinator for maternity, Neo natal and paediatric departments locally. Our committee comprises of parents who have also experienced the death of a baby, trainee midwives, grandparents & healthcare professionals who work in the field of maternity bereavement.
As a collective our improvements to Maternity & Neo Natal Bereavement Services are award winning, following a special recognition award received at the 2014 Butterfly Awards held in Warwick.
Our work is ongoing & we hold 2 main fundraising events every year. These events are designed to bring families together to enable them to share their stories to support & help each other!
Keep a Look out for these annual events & join us if you can!
Harry & Co would like to thank all those who have helped us to raise funds. See the thank you list.
